Last weekend I finally made the inagural trip to the AC. Unfortunately my timing wasn’t spectacular because my ATM card had just expired and the new one the bank sent me didn’t work. If that’s not bad enough, my bank (a local bank in Austin) was closed due to Austin Blizzard 2007!, which meant I had no hope of getting my ATM card running in a reasonable amount of time. Instead I had to get an ATM card for the new account that Kat set up here.

All I had to do was go to the bank, present an ID and pick up a new ATM card. Easy enough. What was strange was the guy who took care of it for me. He looked at my driver’s license and said, “This is really you? It doesn’t even look like you.” Then he gave me my new ATM card and watched me take money out of the ATM to make sure it worked. I feel safe already.

Cash in hand, I made my way to Port Authority to catch the Greyhound to AC. The trip was rather uneventful and my bus contained a much smaller number of serial killers than I would have expected after my Greyhound trip to Foxwoods. AC reminds me a lot of Reno, only with more active development going on. It’s a smaller, more ghetto version of Vegas. The big difference at AC was that all the games were more expensive. You’re not going to find a table game for less than $25/hand, and I felt lucky to find a craps table that was running at a measley $10 minimum.

I had gone to AC fully intent on playing some poker, but as with all recent trips to the casino, I had a hard time pulling myself away from the craps table for long enough to find a poker room. And by “hard time” I mean “found it impossible”. That’s ok though. Now that I’ve been there and checked out the scene, I’ll be going back somewhat regularly. In fact, I’m about to leave to go there now.

There was one eventful moment on my way out. As I was waiting to catch the bus back to NYC, a homeless lady tried a new begging method that I hadn’t seen before. She walked up to me and said, “Hey, I bet you don’t have any money for me, do you?” Wow. She’s like some kind of genius. I bet her next line was going to be “I bet you are more disgusted by my smell than my looks.” Good show, good show.

fuck this

After all this fucking time (I’ve been trying to post for weeks), blogger decided to fix their issue with vdeck ftp servers and I can finally post again. Unfortunately, I already started a new blog using wordpress instead of holding out for the new blogger to come through for me. So you (if you so desire) get to update your blogroll to point to my new location:

Add me on bloglines
RSS Feed
Atom Feed

The good news is now I don’t have to figure out how to mess with my rss feed so all of you get this. Fuck man, I’m getting too old for this shit Riggs.

more wordpress action and some poker

I think I finally have my configuration set up right so I can publish posts from w.bloggar, which makes life better because it still drives me crazy to use a web interface, even if it is one of the best ones I’ve seen lately. I’m also still working on other configuration aspects, such as the ability to post via email, getting feeds working properly, etc. I think I might just have the feeds thing figured out. This post should serve as a decent test. Amazing that it would take me well over a day just to get something as simple as feeds straightened out, but I guess I’m not as smart as I think I am.

And in poker-related news. I haven’t really been playing much lately, but last night I got to sit down and really play poker. It started off with the home game where I proceeded to run my pocket pairs into bigger pocket pairs until I was bled completely dry, then back at home where I fired up full tilt and once again ran 10s into queens and then busted on a good call but had my AKs get destroyed by K-10o. Such is life. This was my first time to play a large tournament in forever (885 players) and though I didn’t hit the money, it was still refreshing to know that I can last for multiple hours (would have been more if I could learn to lay down pocket 10s). So I’m back in the game, sort of. In the losing game at least.

motherfucking blogger

The new blogger won’t work with my webhost (or apparently with any webhost that uses vdeck), so I’m finally biting the bullet and switching to wordpress.  I’d like to say that it’s because I did some amount of research and decided that wp is the right way to go for me, but the fact is my webhost has wp set up and I’m looking for easy rather than right.  That seems to be the theme with everything as of late.

So this is it.  A whole new era. “A.B.”, if you will.  Hopefully I’ll learn how to use this soon.
