In the city, part 1

I don’t have a tremendous amount of time to post today, because I still need to get some stuff situated with my temporary apartment, but I thought I should post some first impressions.

  • It’s loud
  • There are yankees all over the damn place
  • My feet hurt because I’m a lazy slob
  • Today is a holiday (I totally forgot about that)

Here’s the things I didn’t come prepared for (that I’ve thought of so far):

  • Temperatures below 80 degrees
  • Rain
  • Ironing my clothes
  • The need to cut my toenails
  • Entertaining myself without cable television

In case you’re curious, tomorrow (also known as my first day of work) it’s supposed to rain with a high temperature of 65 degrees. My apartment doesn’t have cable television or internet access (which wouldn’t matter because I don’t own a laptop), and my feet already hurt because I need to cut my toenails and I’ve spent the past five hours walking around. For some reason when I was packing it didn’t occur to me that moving halfway across the country might result in different weather. Who knew the weather would be different here than in Austin?

On the plus side, my “cousin”‘s mother who worked the key transfer on my temporary apartment is the sweetest little old Jewish lady. So now it’s like I have my own Jewish family to nag me and give me life advice.

I’m really sad to be out of Austin, but the party we had last Friday was awesome. Kat and I really do have the best friends in the world and leaving Austin was an extremely difficult decision for me. If you missed the party, you really missed out. Thanks to everyone who came out for one last party. And extra special thanks for the kickass Fuck Katstavo shirts, fireballs, jager shots, weird-o vodka, and April’s sweet eulogy. I’m really serious when I say that you guys need to come to NYC to visit me. We’re going to have all the pictures up from my camera eventually, but for now take a look at the link to April’s eulogy because she got video of Brian’s fireball. Awesome.

Oh yeah, one last note – I have limited internet access for the timebeing, so if you want to get in touch with me you should text message me. Yay celefonos.

  1. Hell yes, we have the best friends ever!! I hope my care package helped out a little bit (although books on C programming aren’t much to snuggle up with). :-)
